How We Research Products for Indian Buyers
Transparency matters. Here's exactly how we research, evaluate, and select the products we recommend - and what our method can and can't tell you.
What Our Research Actually Is
We do not operate a testing lab, and we do not review products hands-on. What we do instead is read what happens to people who actually bought them. For every product we shortlist, we work through hundreds to thousands of verified buyer reviews, looking for the patterns that repeat: the compressor that fails in month seven, the battery that halves by the second summer, the service centre that never picks up in a tier-2 city.
We think that is a fair trade, and in some ways a better one. A reviewer with a loan unit for two weeks gets one sample, in one home, in one climate, for a fraction of the warranty period. They cannot tell you what the product is like after eighteen months of Delhi summers and hard water, because they will have returned it long before then. The buyer-review corpus can. Our job is to read it carefully, discount the fake and the fresh-out-of-the-box five stars, and surface the complaints that keep recurring.
The flip side is that we will never tell you how a mixer sounds in your kitchen or how a phone's camera handles your lighting. Where the research cannot settle a question, we say so in the review rather than filling the gap with something that sounds authoritative.
We believe product recommendations should be earned, not bought. We don't accept payments from brands for placement or positive reviews. Our revenue comes from affiliate commissions when you purchase through our links, but our recommendations are based purely on product merit. We frequently recommend products that earn us lower commissions because they're simply better for our readers.
Our 6-Step Evaluation Process
Market Research & Product Discovery
We start by mapping the entire product landscape. This isn't a quick Amazon search - we research across multiple retailers, brand websites, and industry publications to identify every viable option.
- Identify all products available in the category on Amazon.in, Flipkart, and brand stores
- Track new launches and upcoming products that may affect recommendations
- Research brand reputation, after-sales service networks, and warranty policies across India
- Filter out products with poor availability or unreliable supply chains
Deep Specification Analysis
We go beyond marketing claims to analyze actual specifications. We compare technical capabilities side-by-side, verifying claims against real data where possible.
- Compare specs against competitors at the same price point
- Verify energy efficiency ratings (BEE star ratings for appliances)
- Assess build materials and component quality
- Evaluate feature completeness vs. feature gimmicks
Real User Review Analysis
This is where we spend the most time. We read hundreds of verified buyer reviews for each product, looking for patterns that reveal the real-world experience.
- Analyze verified purchase reviews on Amazon.in and Flipkart
- Specifically search for negative reviews and recurring complaints
- Look for long-term durability reports (3-6 month reviews are most valuable)
- Identify common issues like installation problems, service complaints, or quality fade
- Cross-reference reviews across platforms to detect fake review patterns
Price-Performance Evaluation
A great product at the wrong price isn't a great recommendation. We evaluate every product's value proposition relative to its competitors.
- Track price history to identify genuine deals vs. inflated "discounts"
- Calculate cost-per-feature and cost-per-performance metrics
- Set a 50% price threshold - products below the median price for their category get extra scrutiny for quality
- Ensure brand diversity - no single brand dominates more than 30% of our picks
India-Specific Evaluation
Products that work great abroad often fail in Indian conditions. We evaluate every product through an India-specific lens.
- Power conditions: Voltage fluctuation tolerance, stabilizer requirements, power consumption during Indian summer peaks
- Climate factors: Performance in high humidity, extreme heat (45C+), dust resistance
- Water quality: For water-dependent appliances, we consider hard water and high TDS conditions common across India
- Service network: Availability of authorized service centers, spare parts accessibility, and warranty claim experience in tier-2 and tier-3 cities
- Local usage patterns: Indian cooking styles for kitchen appliances, joint family sizing for home appliances, power backup compatibility
Ongoing Monitoring & Updates
Our work doesn't end at publication. We continuously monitor our recommended products and update our reviews when things change.
- Monitor price changes and update recommendations when value equations shift
- Track new product launches that may outperform our current picks
- Watch for product discontinuations or availability issues
- Update content when manufacturers release firmware updates or new variants
- Respond to reader feedback and incorporate real-world usage reports
Category-Specific Evaluation Criteria
Different product categories demand different evaluation approaches. Here's what we dig into for major categories - the specs we compare and the complaints we go looking for in owner reviews:
Air Conditioners
- Owner reports of cooling at 45C+ ambient temperature
- Claimed dB ratings, and whether owners dispute them
- ISEER rating and running-cost complaints across a full summer
- Copper vs. aluminium condenser durability
- Stated stabilizer-free operating voltage range
- Installation quality and after-sales service response times
Kitchen Appliances
- Performance with Indian cooking tasks (grinding masala, kneading atta)
- Motor durability under heavy/continuous use
- Ease of cleaning Indian food residue
- Jar quality and coupling durability
- Noise levels during grinding operations
- Spare parts availability and pricing
Electronics & Gadgets
- Real-world battery life vs. claimed specifications
- Performance under Indian network conditions (4G/5G coverage)
- Software update track record and long-term support
- Display visibility in bright Indian sunlight
- Charging speeds with Indian power outlets
- Regional content and language support
Water Purifiers
- Purification effectiveness at different TDS levels (500-2000+)
- Filter replacement costs and frequency
- Recovery rate (water wastage in RO systems)
- Performance with municipal vs. borewell water
- Service network coverage across India
- Annual maintenance costs (filters + AMC)
The WWCD Score
Every product we recommend carries a WWCD Score out of 10. It is a research-derived score, not a lab measurement and not a hands-on test result. It exists to compress everything we found about a product into one comparable number, so you can weigh two shortlisted models against each other without reading both reviews end to end.
What goes into the score
- Verified buyer review analysis - what hundreds to thousands of real owners report after months of use, with particular weight on recurring complaints
- Specification comparison - how the product's measurable capabilities stack up against every competitor in the same price band
- Price-to-performance - what you give up, or don't, relative to cheaper and costlier alternatives, tracked against price history rather than launch MRP
- India-specific suitability - voltage tolerance, heat and humidity performance, water hardness, spare-part availability and service network reach
- Support and warranty reality - what owners actually experience when something fails, not what the warranty card promises
How to read the number
- 9.0 and above - class-leading; we would recommend it without reservation to most buyers in its category
- 8.5 to 8.9 - excellent, with one or two trade-offs we call out explicitly in the review
- 8.0 to 8.4 - a solid buy for the right person, usually because it wins decisively on one axis such as price
- Below 8.0 - it earns its place on the list for a specific reason, but there are meaningful compromises
The honest limitations
- Scores are only comparable within a category. An 8.8 air purifier and an 8.8 laptop have nothing in common.
- Products that never make our shortlist are never scored, so the published range is narrow by construction. A low score here still means we considered the product worth listing.
- The score reflects what we could establish from research. Where a product is too new for meaningful owner feedback, we say so in the review rather than guessing.
What We Don't Do
- Claim hands-on testing - We don't run a lab and we don't pretend otherwise. Where a number comes from a spec sheet or an owner report, we say which
- Accept paid placements - No brand can pay to appear in our reviews
- Copy manufacturer descriptions - Every word in our reviews is original analysis
- Ignore negative feedback - We actively search for product problems before recommending
- Recommend without research - Every product goes through our full evaluation pipeline
- Keep outdated recommendations - We regularly update reviews when better products launch or prices change significantly
Our Revenue Model
We earn affiliate commissions when you purchase products through our links. This means we earn the same commission regardless of which product you choose - so we have no financial incentive to recommend one product over another. Our only incentive is to recommend products you'll actually be happy with, because satisfied readers come back and trust our future recommendations.
We display clearly marked affiliate links and always include the rel="nofollow sponsored" attribute as required by search engine guidelines. Product prices are
pulled from Amazon's Creators API when we publish or refresh a review, and
we show the date of that refresh. They are not live: Amazon prices move
daily, so treat ours as the figure at the time of writing and check the
product page for the current one.
