Only third-party certification proves a material is safe. A listing that says "non-toxic" or "hypoallergenic" without one proves little.

Most Indian baby cots take a 120x60 cm mattress. Measure the inside of your cot before you buy.
- Standard Indian cot: 120x60 cm. This covers Luvlap, Babyhug and IKEA SNIGLAR cots, and a 48x24 inch (121.9x61 cm) mattress also fits.
- Larger international crib: 132x71 cm. These 52x28 inch cribs are less common in India but available.
Measure the internal bed area, not the frame. A gap of more than 1 cm on any side is a hazard, because baby limbs can get trapped.

Waterproofing and Cover Maintenance
A baby mattress cover will get wet from diaper leaks, spit-up and sweat. Check three things before you buy.
- Removable cover. It must unzip for washing.
