Buy a top loader for ergonomics and price; buy a front loader if running costs and drying time matter more.
- No bending, and you can add clothes mid-cycle. That is the real top-load advantage, and it matters for elderly users.
- Front loaders use far less water. ENERGY STAR puts a certified front loader at about 45% less energy and 50% less water than a top-load agitator machine.
- Top loaders cost less to buy. Every machine here sits under ₹35,000.

Spin speed decides how wet your clothes come out
Spin speed is the biggest lever on drying time. On top loaders it sits in a narrow band, so every extra 40 RPM counts.
- 700 to 740 RPM is the whole range here. Front loaders reach 1,000 to 1,400, which is why they extract far more water.
- Prefer the higher figure. You notice 740 over 700 on the line in monsoon.

Do you actually need an in-built heater?
A heater is genuinely useful, but it is not the hygiene guarantee the marketing implies. Six of the ten machines here have one.
