Both systems answer the same question — where am I, and what have I already cleaned — but they gather the evidence in completely different ways.

Mopping, and what it actually does

Most robots sold in India are hybrids. The plate type decides whether mopping is a genuine feature or a damp cloth being dragged around.

REALITY CHECK

Robot mopping supplements manual mopping, it does not replace it. It is good at daily maintenance. It will not handle deep cleaning or sticky spills.

Where Indian homes break the assumptions

HANDLED WELL

Daily dust. Fine dust and everyday debris.
Pet hair. Suction is generally adequate.
Tile and marble. Excellent on smooth floors.
Upkeep. Holds the line between deep cleans.

THE ONE-LINE VERSION

LiDAR is worth the premium in a multi-room home. Camera navigation is enough in a small, well-lit flat. Budget ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a year for consumables either way.

Frequently asked questions

Is LiDAR worth the premium?

Yes, for larger or multi-room homes. LiDAR navigates more consistently, maps faster, and does not care about lighting. In a one-bedroom flat with good light, the advantage is much smaller.

Do robot vacuums replace deep cleaning?

No. They supplement it. A robot is excellent at daily maintenance, but you will still want a weekly manual clean for anything thorough.

Can they handle Indian floors effectively?

Mostly. They work well on tile, marble and wood. Raised thresholds over about 15mm, wet spills and thick carpets are the recurring problems.

How much maintenance do they need?

Empty the dustbin after each run, clean the brushes weekly, and replace filters every three to six months. Budget ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a year for consumables.

Is the mopping feature useful?

Moderately. It is fine for daily dust and light mopping. A vibrating plate beats a basic water-drip plate, but neither delivers a deep clean.
