Milton vs Borosil vs Cello: which is better?
On paper these three are the same bottle. Each is a 1-litre SS304 double-wall vacuum flask with a copper-coated wall, a "24 hours hot and cold" claim, and a price of ₹974–999. The spec sheet cannot separate them — the verified reviews we analysed can.
- Milton (Duo DLX 1000) — 23% recent negatives. The complaint is delivery, not the flask: a recurring share of buyers receive used or dented units. Inspect the bottle on arrival and it performs. Milton's Artedge 1000, our overall winner, is cleaner still at 15%.
- Borosil (Hydra Bolt) — over 40% recent negatives. Owners report rust inside within a month, despite the "100% rust-proof SS304" label, plus a coloured coating that peels or whitens. Borosil is also the only one here without an ISI mark.
- Cello (Swift 1000) — over 40% recent negatives. The recurring themes are weak heat retention and cap or gasket failure. The Swift also ships with no warranty, so a failed bottle is your loss.
Identical spec sheets, very different ownership. Milton's issue is one you can screen for on delivery; the others are the bottle failing at its one job. Milton is the safer buy — and at its best, the Milton Artedge 1000 is our top pick.
Is "BPA-free" enough to judge a bottle?
"BPA-free" matters, but it is only half the check. The cap, sipper and straw are plastic, and your drink does touch them — so BPA-free there is worth having. It just says nothing about the steel body or how long the bottle stays hot or cold.
- BPA-free plastic parts. The lid, sipper and straw meet your drink, so this is the one place "BPA-free" genuinely counts.
- Food-grade SS304 (18/8) steel. It resists rust and will not leach; cheaper SS201 can corrode within weeks.
- The ISI mark (IS 17526). This is the only claim that proves real heat retention, not a marketing "24 hours" number.
Make any insulated bottle last longer
Two habits stretch how long a flask holds temperature — and one accident quietly ends it.
- Fill it full and pre-warm it. A part-full flask cools faster; a two-minute rinse with boiling or ice water primes the steel walls before you fill.
- Skip fizzy and acidic drinks. Carbonated drinks build pressure that can jam the cap, and lemon water or buttermilk attacks the steel.
- Treat a dent as damage. A hard drop can crack the vacuum seal — the bottle still holds water but stops keeping drinks hot or cold.

Which insulated bottle to buy
Every bottle here is a genuine steel vacuum flask. If you'd rather not read the whole comparison, these are the only two worth choosing between.
For most people, buy the Milton Artedge 1000 (₹1,220). It's brand-verified SS304 steel inside and out, ISI-certified, and slim enough to fit a car cup-holder. It also had the cleanest recent owner record here — just 15% of its last 82 verified reviews were negative. Get it unless you need a lower price or a sipper lid.
Check Price on Amazon →Want to spend less? Get the Jaypee Plus Tango 900 (₹665) — the cheapest ISI-certified, brand-verified 18/8 SS304 bottle here, with a copper-lined wall and a base that fits a car cup-holder. The only trade-off is capacity: 900 ml instead of a full litre.

-
Why filling it to the top matters
A vacuum flask barely loses heat through its sides. Almost all of it escapes through the neck and cap, where the two steel walls meet.
- Fill it to the top. More water holds its temperature longer against that slow leak.
- A half-full bottle cools faster. The smaller amount of liquid loses its heat sooner.
- Carrying small amounts? A smaller flask filled full beats a big one left part-empty.
Match the flask size to how much you actually carry, and keep it full.
-
Look for the ISI mark (IS 17526) — it is the only real test
Every bottle prints "24 hours hot and cold"; verified owners measure 3–12. The one claim you can trust is the ISI mark.
- ISI against IS 17526. The Bureau of Indian Standards spec for steel vacuum flasks forces a real thermal-retention test, not a marketing number.
- Who carries it here. The Milton Artedge, Aura and Duo DLX, the Go24 pexpo Bravo and the Jaypee Plus Tango.
Between two similar bottles, let the ISI mark break the tie.
-
Steel grade: SS304 / 18-8, and how to verify it
Food-grade SS304 (18/8) resists rust and will not leach. Cheaper SS201 corrodes faster, and rust inside within weeks is this category's second-most-common failure.
- SS304 leaches less. Peer-reviewed testing shows nickel and chromium migration rises with lower grades and acidic drinks.
- Amazon just says "Stainless Steel". Check the grade on the brand's own website instead.
- Who confirms SS304/18-8. Milton, Pexpo, Jaypee, The Better Home, Fruitalite, Solara and InstaCuppa all state it officially.
Trust a brand-site grade claim; treat total silence on grade as a reason to lean on reputation.
-
The cap is the part that fails — choose the lid for how you drink
Across thousands of reviews, the lid — not the flask — is the most common failure point. Sealing and convenience run in opposite orders.
- Plain screw cap. The most leak-proof (Artedge, Aura, Jaypee, pexpo), but it needs two hands.
- Straw or sipper. Easiest to drink from on the move (Solara), but the most leak-prone.
- Flip-top and push-button. Sit in between on both sealing and convenience.
Pick for how you drink daily, and expect fewer moving parts to last longer.
-
Base diameter and the car cup-holder
The number most buyers forget to check is the base diameter — it decides whether the bottle drops into a car cup-holder.
- Base under ~7.5 cm fits a cup-holder. Jaypee (8 cm) and the Artedge and Aura (8.4 cm) are close; 10 cm+ bases (Duo DLX, MuscleBlaze) will not fit.
- Triple-wall runs wider. The pexpo Bravo insulates best, but its 9.5 cm base will not sit in a holder.
Measure your cup-holder and match the base before you buy.
-
Read the recent reviews, not the lifetime star rating
A lifetime rating is padded by early, sometimes seeded, 5-star reviews. It can hide a bottle failing right now.
- Read the recent-negative share. In this set it ran from 8% (InstaCuppa, MuscleBlaze) to 35% (Milton Aura).
- A shiny 4.4★ can mislead. The average can sit on a stream where a third of this month's buyers are unhappy.
Sort by "Most recent" and judge the current stream before you buy.
