Surge protector reviews: sockets, cable and USB
Specs, the honest pros and cons, and who each one is for.
Belkin 4-Socket Extension Board
- Sockets
- 4 universal
- USB Ports
- None
- Cable Length
- 5 feet (1.5 m)
- Protection
- Surge + overload
- Warranty
- 5 years
- Brand
- Belkin
This is the pick we would put behind a TV or a desktop. The 5-year manufacturer warranty is the longest on this page, and it is the clearest signal a brand will stand behind the board. The cable and moulding feel a class above the cheaper boards here. Four sockets and no USB ports is a real limit. But every other board on this list asks you to trade warranty or build for the extra ports.
- + 5-year manufacturer warranty
- + heavy-duty cable and moulding
- + genuine surge plus overload protection
- + compact enough for a desk or TV unit
- + decades of Belkin track record in India
- - Only 4 sockets
- - no USB ports
- - short 1.5m cable
- - costs more than 8-socket boards from newer brands
Belkin 6-Socket Extension Board with Surge Protector
- Sockets
- 6 universal
- USB Ports
- None
- Cable Length
- 6.5 feet (2 m)
- Protection
- Surge + overload
- Warranty
- 5 years
- Brand
- Belkin
The 6-socket Belkin is the same board as our winner with two more sockets and half a metre more cable. That is worth about ₹500. Take it if the 4-socket version would leave you short, or if the wall socket sits awkwardly far from the desk. Everything that makes the 4-socket model our pick applies here too.
- + Same 5-year warranty as the 4-socket model
- + two extra sockets
- + longer 2m cable
- + heavy-duty build
- + reliable brand support in India
- - No USB ports
- - ₹500 more than the 4-socket version
- - plain design with no modern features
Portronics Power Plate 7 - 8 Sockets + 6 USB
- Sockets
- 8 universal
- USB Ports
- 6 USB-A (2.1A)
- Power Capacity
- 2500 W
- Cable Length
- 2 metres
- Switch
- Master switch
- Brand
- Portronics
Fourteen outlets for ₹805 is the best price-per-port on this page by a wide margin. Eight sockets cover a TV wall or a family charging corner, and the six USB-A ports keep phone bricks off the board. The trade-off is charging speed. These are 2.1A USB-A ports, so a modern phone charges slowly and a laptop not at all.
- + Eight sockets and six USB ports for under ₹850
- + 2500W handles most home loads
- + 2m cord
- + master switch
- + established Indian brand
- - USB ports are 2.1A USB-A only with no USB-C or fast charging
- - no published joule rating
- - plastic build is a step below Belkin
FEDUS 8-Socket with USB-A and USB-C
- Sockets
- 8 universal
- USB Ports
- USB-A + USB-C
- Cable Length
- 5 metres (16 ft)
- Protection
- Automatic overload
- Switch
- Master switch
- Brand
- FEDUS
Buy this one for the cable. Five metres reaches across a living room or up to a wall-mounted TV, and nothing else here comes close. You also get eight sockets and both USB types. What you give up is certainty. FEDUS publishes no joule rating and has no long record in India, so treat it as an outlet-reach solution rather than your last line of defence.
- + 5-metre cable is the longest here by a wide margin
- + 8 sockets plus both USB-A and USB-C
- + automatic overload cut-off
- + fireproof housing
- - Lesser-known brand with a short track record
- - no published joule or clamping rating
- - owner reviews are mixed on long-term durability
Stuffcool ChargeCube 30 Mini Extension Board
- Sockets
- 3 AC
- USB-C
- 30W PD with PPS
- Design
- Compact cube
- Protection
- Surge protection
- Safety
- Child shutters
- Brand
- Stuffcool
This is the only board here with real USB-C Power Delivery, and PPS support means it charges Samsung and OnePlus phones at their full rate. Thirty watts is enough for a MacBook Air. Three AC sockets and a cube body make it a hotel-room and cabin-desk product rather than a living-room one.
- + Only board here with USB-C PD and PPS
- + 30W charges an iPhone to 50% in about 30 minutes and runs a MacBook Air
- + cube shape fits a bag
- + decent surge protection
- - Only 3 AC sockets
- - 30W is split across two ports when both are used
- - costs more than 8-socket boards
- - short cord
Gizga Essentials 3-Socket with 6 Charging Ports
- Sockets
- 3 universal
- USB Ports
- 4 USB-A + 2 USB-C
- Power Capacity
- 2500 W
- Cable Length
- 2 metres
- Safety
- Child shutters
- Brand
- Gizga Essentials
Six charging ports and three sockets for ₹669 is hard to argue with. Two of those ports are USB-C, which no cheaper board here offers. Child safety shutters are a genuine plus for a bedside or kids' room. Just do not expect speed. These USB-C ports are not Power Delivery, so a phone charges at ordinary pace.
- + Cheapest board here with USB-C
- + six charging ports is more than boards costing twice as much
- + child safety shutters
- + 2m cord
- + compact enough for a bedside table
- - Only 3 AC sockets
- - USB-C ports are not Power Delivery so charging is slow
- - no published joule rating
- - lesser-known brand
GM Cuba 3341 with USB-A and USB-C
- Sockets
- 3 international
- USB Ports
- USB-A + USB-C
- Power Capacity
- 2500 W
- Cable Length
- 1.8 metres
- Housing
- Fireproof to 750°C
- Warranty
- 1 year
At ₹679 the GM Cuba 3341 does the basics without cutting the wrong corners. Three sockets, both USB types and a fireproof housing rated to 750°C. GM is an established Indian electricals brand with a service network, which matters more than the spec sheet at this price. The 1-year warranty is the shortest on this page.
- + Very affordable
- + USB-A and USB-C at under ₹700
- + 2500W capacity
- + fireproof housing rated to 750°C
- + GM has a real service presence in India
- - Only 3 sockets
- - USB-C is not Power Delivery
- - 1-year warranty is the shortest here
- - no published joule rating
Hoteon Tower Extension Board with GaN 70W
- Design
- Vertical tower
- GaN Charging
- 70W USB-C
- Power Capacity
- 2500 W / 10 A
- USB Ports
- Multiple
- Protection
- Surge protection
- Brand
- Hoteon
The 70W GaN port is the headline and it is a real one. That is enough to charge a full-size laptop at speed, which nothing else here can do. The vertical tower keeps all of it in a footprint the size of a mug. Two caveats keep it off our shortlist. Hoteon is a very new name, and stock on Amazon India is unreliable — check availability before you plan around it.
- + 70W GaN charging is the fastest here and will run a full-size laptop
- + tower design takes very little desk space
- + 2500W capacity
- + several outlets in a small footprint
- - Frequently out of stock on Amazon India
- - newest brand here with almost no track record
- - most expensive board on this page
- - tower shape does not suit every setup

Most Indian boards never publish a joule rating
Joules measure how much surge energy a board can absorb before it stops protecting. Almost no board sold in India prints the number.
- Seven of the eight boards here publish nothing. Only marketing words like "surge guard" appear on the listing.
- Treat amp figures with care. A "20,000 amp" claim with no joule figure beside it tells you little.
If a listing gives no joule rating, buy on warranty instead. That is why both Belkins lead this page.
-
USB-C is not one thing: PD, PPS and plain
A USB-C port on a power strip can mean three very different charging speeds. Read the wattage, not the port shape.
- USB-C with PD. 30W and up. Charges a phone to half in about half an hour. Only the Stuffcool ChargeCube does this.
- USB-C without PD. The Gizga and GM ports are plain 5V output in a USB-C shell. Convenient, not fast.
- USB-A at 2.1A. What the Portronics offers. Fine overnight, slow in a hurry.
No wattage on the listing usually means no PD.
-
Count sockets, then measure the cable
Socket count is the easy part. The cable is what sends boards back.
- 4 sockets. One desktop, or a TV and set-top box.
- 6 sockets. A home office with a monitor, dock, lamp and printer.
- 8 sockets. A TV wall or a family charging corner.
- Measure before ordering. Boards here run from 1.5 m to 5 m. Walk the route from wall socket to desk with a tape.
Never solve a short cable by adding a second board. Buy the longer cord instead.
-
Warranty is the spec you can actually verify
Surge protection is a claim you cannot test at home. Warranty is a promise the brand must honour.
- Belkin: 5 years. The longest here, on both the 4-socket and 6-socket boards.
- GM: 1 year. Short, but GM has a real service network across India.
- The rest publish nothing. Portronics, FEDUS, Gizga, Stuffcool and Hoteon state no warranty term.
- Check for ISI marking. A safety baseline, not a surge-performance claim.
Pay for the warranty when something expensive sits behind the board.
